Transcript Welcome to MooMooMath, where we upload a new math video every day. Today I would like to show how to convert meters to feet and meters to inches. One conversion you will need is that meter = 3.28084 feet. Let’s go ahead and jump. Let’s say we have 12 meters and we would like to know how many feet are equal. First I put what is given over 1 and add a multiplication sign. I draw another fraction and I always put what I want on top and what they give me on the bottom. Let’s recap, I put 12 over 1, put the unit I want to convert to on top, and put what I was given on the bottom. Next I ask “which is bigger, meters or feet?” 1 meter = 3.28084. So I just multiply and I get 39.3701 feet. Let’s complete another. 23 meters = feet Put 23 over 1, put the unit of measure I’m converting to at the top. Place what is given at the bottom. I want to go on foot, and they gave me meters. Which is bigger? Meter or feet 1 meter is equal to 3.28084 feet. The meters cancel out and 23 x 3.28084 = 75.4593 feet. I know you can multiply meters times feet, but if you have 7 meters and learn the technique, you can convert anything. How many inches are equal to 7 meters? I take what is given and put on 1 and you will see why this technique helps. I need to go to inches, but I don’t know how many inches are in a meter. I know how many meters are in a foot. Put the feet at the top and the meters at the bottom. Which is bigger, meters or feet? I know that one meter is equal to 3.28084 feet. So I can go to inches. I place the unit I want to convert to at the top. What is given at the bottom. Which is bigger? I know that 1 foot is equal to 12 inches. Let’s see what cancels. Meters cancel out, feet cancel out, and I’m left with inches. Next, I multiply directly 7 x 3.28084 x 12 = 272.591 inches. Once you learn the technique, you can convert anything. Quick summary. Place the given on top of 1 Place the unit of measure on top of another fraction. Place what is given at the bottom. Ask “which is bigger?” Meters or feet, so I’ll put a 1 for meters. Cancel my units of measure and multiply directly, and that gives you your conversion Thanks for watching MooMooMath uploads a new Math video every day You might also enjoy… Convert meters to inches https://www.youtube.com/watch? v =_f5qsA8D-uM Convert inches to meters https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHke2Y9KEag About MooMooMath – We provide helpful math and geometry videos to help you solve math problems or review old math concepts you may need to refresh .
